Original illustrated study of an immersion setup
An illustrated interpretation, not a documentary photograph.

An immersion setup is a small study within Press Morning, our collection about immersion coffee and quiet morning routines. The aim is to give one ordinary detail enough attention to become useful. Begin with an immersion brewer, keep a scale and a timer nearby, and let the exercise set the scale of the session.

Prepare a repeatable setup

List the parts that need cleaning before the next brew. This is the central task for this page. Before beginning, write the subject as a short heading and leave space for a drawing or a few measured notes. Your first record should show what was actually in front of you rather than what you expected to find.

Choose one brewing method and use the equipment instructions as your starting point. Record the coffee mass, water mass and grind setting before beginning. Keep the cup and brewer in the same arrangement each time. A tidy setup helps you notice the process instead of searching for tools halfway through it.

A useful way to work

Keep the same equipment arrangement for the comparison. Let the cup cool enough to compare comfortably, then describe it in ordinary words such as bright, rounded or dry. Those impressions belong to that brew and that moment. If you adjust the method, change only one recorded variable. Write the result beside the previous attempt so a useful difference is not lost in a string of unrelated brews.

  1. Give this session a clear heading: An immersion setup.
  2. List the parts that need cleaning before the next brew.
  3. Keep the same equipment arrangement for the comparison.
  4. Save one observation and one question in your own words.

Try a second pass

For a second pass, keep the subject of an immersion setup and change the way you record it. A short diagram can replace a long description; a paired comparison can replace a single impression. Keep the first attempt alongside the second so the difference remains visible. If the result is uncertain, name the uncertainty instead of filling the gap.

Keep the useful detail

Close the page with one sentence about an immersion brewer and one question that arose from this particular exercise. A coffee and water note offers a related direction: write the two measured masses beside the brewer. The connection is a starting point, not a requirement to complete the journal in order.
